On behalf of the entire UNA-USA team, I’d like to take a moment to recognize and thank all our members for their continued commitment to our movement to support the United Nations.
Despite this year’s challenges due to COVID-19, our members quickly adapted to virtual programming, remained engaged, and advocated for the UN’s work. From hosting more than 80 UN75 consultations to participating in National Call-in Day—and everything in between—you continue to send a powerful message: Americans support the UN.
Thank you so much for all you do. Together, a better world for everyone, everywhere, is possible. We wish you a very safe holiday season.
In solidarity,
Rachel Bowen Pittman
Executive Director, UNA-USA
A Disability-Inclusive Response to COVID-19
DECEMBER 2 | 1 P.M. ET
International Day of Persons with Disabilities is recognized annually on December 3. Realizing the rights of persons with disabilities is central to the 2030 Agenda’s promise—to leave no one behind.
Join us Tuesday, December 2 at 1 p.m. ET for an interactive discussion with high-level United Nations officials and U.S. activists to learn how the UN is working to create a disability-inclusive response to COVID-19.
Celebrate Human Rights Day with us!
DECEMBER 10 | 4 P.M. ET
Join us for a special Human Rights Day celebration focused on the intersection of art and human rights. During this program, we’ll feature pieces of art that have been submitted as visual indicators of human rights. Guest speakers will offer their perspectives and context regarding the artwork and related UN activities.
Interested in submitting your art for a chance to be featured? Submit your piece by Sunday, November 29.
Call for Input: Racial Justice and Human Rights
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights is seeking input from civil society and other relevant stakeholders regarding (1) combating systemic racism, (2) excessive force used against peaceful protestors, journalists, and bystanders, and (3) government and institutional responses to human rights abuses related to these matters. You’re invited to provide written input for the report or join our discussion Tuesday, December 1 at 4:30 p.m. ET. All feedback will be summarized and submitted to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Addressing Gender-Based Violence at the Local Level
Gender-based violence (GBV) has surged since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Join us December 2 at 8 p.m. ET to hear from UNFPA’s Sarah Craven about the state of GBV worldwide and how the agency is continuing to provide critical support for girls and women during the pandemic. Participants will break out into smaller groups, led by facilitators from national organizations that work on GBV issues, to discuss how they can take action to put an end to GBV in their communities.
