The Center for Service and Sustainability works to connect the students of Champlain College with the broader community in beneficial ways that provide educational opportunities to reflect, to learn and to work toward a flourishing world for all.
OUR VISION: Through innovative leadership, the Center for Service and Sustainability will empower the members of our learning community to advance social justice and responsible environmental stewardship in our classrooms, on our campus, and throughout the world.
Champlain has long maintained a commitment to addressing issues of social justice and environmental stewardship in Burlington and beyond. Our community partners tell us they benefit from our support and involvement. We know that students value the experience of learning to make a difference—and making a difference through learning.
Champlain has recognized that more intentional, productive, and educational service can happen when it is integrated with sustained reflective learning. Energized by this insight, the Center for Service and Sustainability will focus primarily on experiential learning and working collaboratively toward a better flourishing world for all generations..
The Center for Service and Sustainability will offer opportunities for students, faculty and staff to engage in service, and will oversee Sustain Champlain, Champlain’s campus sustainability initiative. The Center will combine community service with academic instruction by immersing students in critical, reflective thinking and integrating their program, Core and extra-curricular learning.
Sustain Champlain is our campus-wide initiative that strives to infuse sustainability concepts and practices across Champlain College by coordinating and promoting best practices within four areas:
our institution, academics, operations, and culture.
Our blog is our one-stop-shop for campus sustainability related announcements, events on campus and in the community, and opportunities such as conferences, internships, and volunteer options.
