ON THE RUN – RunVermont is staging its 2018 half-marathon on April 14th and is looking for volunteers who are not running to share their time and talents in many different volunteer opportunities. SHOPPING SHUTTLE – Neighbor Rides seeks volunteers, age 55 and older, to help with Green Mountain Transit’s weekly shopping shuttle. Volunteers ride the shuttle to senior housing complexes and then to local supermarkets and socialize with riders, help with boarding and re-boarding, help with shopping as needed, etc. 9 a.m.-noon on Tues. MENTOR! MENTOR! – Connecting Youth is looking for caring, trustworthy, respectful mentors to be matched with students in grades 5 – 12 in the Champlain Valley Union school district which includes schools in Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne and Williston. Mentors and mentees meet in the community to pursue activities, 4+ hours a month. Minimum one year commitment. Training and support provided. Background check required. MAILING LIST MECHANIC – Vermont Rail Action Network has a mailing list in need of some tender loving care. This small nonprofit needs a volunteer with an eye for detail, strong typing and computer skills, access to a computer at home and spreadsheet experience. ELECTRONICS DEPARTMENT – ReSOURCE (Burlington) has an opportunity for a technologically inclined volunteer to gain hands-on experience testing equipment for resale. Tasks may include cleaning donated equipment; testing equipment for function, quality and durability; and preparing donated items for resale. DRIVERS – Franklin Grand Isle Habitat for Humanity is in need of drivers and assistants to pick up donated furniture, tools, building materials and household items with their truck. 6-8 hours one or two days a week. BIG RIG DAY – Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile is looking for volunteers to assist at their upcoming Big Rig Day on April 14, 2018. At this fun, free family-friendly event, kids can come explore a variety of trucks and ask the drivers all of their burning questions. Volunteer tasks include reading a story to a group of kids, helping people sign in, and keeping track of time for story time. One hour or longer shifts.
