I am very pleased to announce that Champlain College, for a third time, earned a Silver Rating from the AASHE STARS Program, in October 2022. This was the work of many collaborators, and I truly appreciate the time taken to meet with me, collect and send me data, review entries, etc.  A special shout out goes to the students Simon Chirichiello, JC Shumaker, Ezra Rifkin, and Bill Greenwald in Dr. Valerie Esposito’s Spring 2022 ENP 300 course, who worked on a culture and literacy survey for our submission as a service-learning project.  Kyle Harrison ’22 ENP and Kathryn Komerska ‘23 Game Art assisted me with other aspects of our submission, through their roles as CS&S intern and student employee, respectively.

Overall, we gained nearly three percentage points over our prior submission. The categories and subsequent points were not identical in all years as the program continues to evolve, but the chart below gives a summary of many of the point areas where we improved (shown in green, yellow was level, and red was a decrease). Our highest scoring areas were in water, campus engagement and diversity & inclusion, and we made a significant jump in curriculum points due to more classes connected to the Sustainable Development Goals. We certainly have room to improve if we should choose to continue to submit in another three years.   Links to the full reports, with scores for each credit area are at the top of the chart below.
