  Save Date for Rokeby Museum’s 2022 Opening! The Museum’s exhibit Free & Safe: The Underground Railroad in Vermont and historic buildings will be open weekends starting May 7th. Rokeby will be fully open on Memorial Day weekend. We are excited to welcome everyone back to Rokeby!  March 16-31st Rokeby will be “On Tap” at Lawson’s Finest Liquids in Waitsfield. 100% of donations that are received from Taproom guests and through their online store during this time will be allocated to Rokeby Museum! The donations from Lawson’s Finest Liquids will go towards Rokeby’s trail maintenance, including the addition of bridges and the continuation of our children’s trail story walk. This initiative is part of the Lawson’s Finest Sunshine Fund, within their Social Impact Program.  Rokeby Museum Winter Book Discussion Series We are excited to bring back our Winter Book Discussion group. Join us each month, January–April for FREE virtual discussions about four powerful books. Register  Virtual Mixer for New and Returning Tour Guides Tuesday, March 22, 6:30 pm, via ZOOM Do you love museums? Do you enjoy storytelling and interacting with people? Rokeby is looking for volunteers to become Tour Guides! As we emerge from the COVID seasons, and from conservation work completed on our Historic House, we are proud to introduce a new guided tour, which will engage visitors with our pastoral property, outbuildings and the interior of the Robinson’s Historic Homestead. The Rokeby story connects Art, Abolition, and Agriculture across more than two centuries through four consecutive generations of the Robinson family who lived and worked there. From commercial farming to the Underground Railroad, to a generation of artists, to welcoming Vermont’s first tourists in what is now a time-honored tradition, Rokeby encapsulates so many aspects of our State’s heritage. Come be a part of our story. We are open seasonally from May to October. Rokeby will be hosting a virtual mixer on March 22 at 6:30 for Tour Guides new and old. Volunteer to be a Tour Guide  Sam Lovel Expeditions: A Bird Walk with Ruth Brooks & Dean Leary Saturday, May 7, 7:30–10:00 am at Rokeby Museum Cost: $5 Members, $10 Non Members Join avid birder Ruth Brooks and Rokeby Board member, Dean Leary, for a guided bird walk that explores migrating birds and all the wildlife that calls this special place home. Throughout the walk, participants will experience first-hand the landscape that inspired the writings of Rowland Evans Robinson. If you have binoculars or field guides please bring them with you. Paths can be uneven and can be wet during this time of year. It is recommended that you wear sturdy, waterproof footwear. Please bring your own water. Sunscreen and bug repellant is recommended. Buy Tickets Upcoming Education Programs  Virtual Homeschool Program: Reimagining the Underground Railroad Tuesday, May 31, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm via ZOOM Cost: $25 per group Homeschool groups are invited to join Rokeby for a virtual Underground Railroad History program. Utilizing the museum’s abundant collection of historic letters, journals, photographs, and artifacts, students and their families will learn the stories of Simon and Jesse, freedom seekers on the Underground Railroad, as well as the abolitionist Robinson family. Together, we’ll unpack the many myths about the UGRR, the regional particularities of Vermont and how it relates to our contemporary experiences. Space is limited to 10 groups. This program will be via ZOOM and link will be sent out before event to registered group attendees. Buy Tickets Professional Development Workshop for Teachers: Teaching about Slavery, Whiteness, Racism,and the Underground Railroad in the North Target Audience: Educators Grades 2-12 Professional learning hours: 6 Location: Rokeby Museum April 9th, 9:00am – 2:00pm (1 hour pre-reading required) Cost: $175 Certificate of completion provided on official letterhead Non-formal education experiences outside of the classroom offer students an experience that is participatory, stimulating, and rooted in local culture. When students visit Rokeby Museum, they are challenged to draw connections between slavery, the Underground Railroad, and the modern struggle for social justice. While deeply enriching for the students, the experience for the teacher is tangential and there is little opportunity for them to glean support or insight from the specialized museum professional. This on-site workshop provides educators a day to reflect and process the experience of teaching emotion-laden topics like slavery and racism, as well as learn new ways to teach the subject and engage their students. Have you ever wondered how an exhibit is made? Spend the day “behind the scenes” digging through the archives at Rokeby Museum, examining our collection of objects and creating your very own exhibit. Learn how to: • Think like a curator! • Tell a story with artifacts! • Handle, store and care for historic objects! • Write imaginative exhibit labels! • Create your own exhibit! Parent/Guardians are invited to the exhibit showing at pickup in the historic house. Student exhibits will stay on display at Rokeby for the week. BYO lunch, healthy snack provided. Space is limited to 10 students. Buy Tickets Rokeby Theater Camp July 11 – 15 Ages 9 – 14 This is a weeklong immersive experience of theater, history, and nature! Campers will lose themselves in another time as they draw inspiration from Rokeby’s historic occupants, buildings, artifacts, pastoral property, and nature trails to create their own fictional characters in a short play. Daily activities will include improv games, scene study, character-building exercises, and exploring Rokeby’s natural and built environments. Camp will culminate with a performance at 6 pm on Friday for families and guests.
