It is a panel discussion on Oct. 14 featuring Dr. Tracey Osborne, director of the University of California Center for Climate Justice; Dr. Stephen Sterling, professor emeritus of sustainability education at Plymouth University; and Dr. Madhavi Venkatesan, assistant teaching professor of economics at Northeastern University. Inspired by a recent essay series titled The Pedagogy of Transition: Educating for the Future We Want, Drs. Public Comment Period for STARS 3.0: Transportation As part of the development process for version 3.0 of AASHE’s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS), public comment on the Transportation section of the framework is now open through Oct. 31. Sign On Opportunity: Race to Zero for Universities & Colleges The Race to Zero is a U.N.-backed global campaign rallying educational institutions and others to take immediate action to halve global emissions by 2030. All members are committed to the same overarching goal–reducing emissions across all scopes swiftly and fairly in line with the Paris Agreement, with transparent action plans and robust near-term targets. To date, over 700 universities and colleges have signed on. Solve Climate by 2030 Teach-In Info Sessions On Sept. 30, Bard College will host four informational sessions for faculty and teaching staff to learn more about the Worldwide Teach-In on Climate Justice, happening on March 30, 2022. Invitation for Student Sustainability Writers The Sustainable Age is a student journal founded by students of the North Texas Regional Center of Expertise Network. The journal is seeking volunteer student writers to submit original articles centered on the 17 U.N. Sustainable Development Goals Social & Environmental Justice Student Recycling Scholarships Students with a passion for social and environmental justice principles and an interest in the recycling industry are encouraged to apply for a 2021 Murray J. Fox Scholarship of $2,000. Approximately three scholarships will be awarded. Funds are provided to assist with education expenses, along with membership in the National Recycling Coalition, plus admission to the National Recycling Congress, happening virtually from Nov. 3-4. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 1. AASHE Member Discount: 20% Off Preserve Products AASHE members can receive a 20 percent discount on Preserve products through the online store. Preserve products range from food storage to tableware and personal care, all made from 100 percent recycled plastic or plant-based compostable materials. This discount expires Dec. 31.
