October is Racial Justice Month!

Welcome to our October organizer update for college & university campaigners! October is especially exciting because not only is it the second month of Fair Fall, but also Fair Trade Month!

This month’s Fair Fall theme is Racial Justice. With the mass mobilization of Black Lives Matter advocates over the past few months, we wanted to create a Racial Justice Resource Hub to help you navigate conversations around systemic racism, police brutality, and other injustices inflicted upon BIPOC communities. Read on for those resources as well as a preview of our new campaign goal revisions focused on diversity and inclusivity.

Along with the racial justice resources, you will find Fair Trade Month promotions, giveaways, and a few more ways to get involved this month.

Stay tuned for our next update in November as our Fair Fall theme shifts to Food Justice.

With warm wishes & gratitude,

Fair Trade and Racial Justice

Racial Justice Resource Hub

Fair Trade Campaigns stands against all systems of oppression, seeks to ensure human dignity for all, and aims to support the Black Lives Matter movement by being more actively anti-racist. That’s why this month, Fair Trade Campaigns launched a racial justice resource hub where advocates can learn about the intersections between racial justice and Fair Trade, listen to captivating talks from previous Fair Trade Campaigns’ conferences, and learn how to put their passion into action to create a just and equitable world.

Updated Campaign Designation Goals

Along with the racial justice resource hub, Fair Trade campaigns is releasing a set of updated campaign designation goals focused on racial justice awareness and inclusivity.

The goal updates will include:

  • evaluating team composition & exploring avenues to ensure missing perspectives are represented
  • partnering with racial justice focused groups to enforce & affirm networking with different communities
  • promoting minority & Black-owned businesses, organizations & communities

These are just a few examples of what’s to come! Stay tuned for an update in the near future with a full list of goal revamps and ways your campaign can incorporate the new requirements.

Campaign Event Ideas Surrounding Racial Justice

Want to share the message of racial justice with your community but not sure how? Here are a few ideas to help kick start the conversation!

  • Invite a guest speaker from your community (think local BIPOC shop owners, community college professors, etc.) to chat with your campaigners about the affects of racial disparities at a local and global level

Have a unique idea for an event? Share it with the Fair Trade Campaigns team to help inspire other campaigners across the country!
