University Sign-On Statement: The Montreal Protocol & Reduction of HFCs |
Negotiated in October, 2016 in Kigali, Rwanda, the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol is an international treaty guiding the phase down of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) worldwide. The U.S. has not yet ratified the treaty, which goes into effect in 2019. Second Nature is beginning to recruit campuses to sign onto a statement, which contains a broad message of support for ratification of the Kigali Amendment and the development of policy to phase down hydrofluorocarbons. It highlights the business advantage of developing alternative technologies.

APPA Sustainability Innovation Award |
Nominations and applications are now being taken for APPA’s 2019 Sustainability Innovation Award in Facilities Management. This honor is designed to recognize and promote unique and innovative sustainable practices in educational facilities and campus environments that lower costs, create a sustainable environment, or otherwise benefit the educational institution, student success and environmental stewardship. The deadline to apply for the 2019 award is Nov. 30.

Call for Submissions: Special Issue of the Journal ‘Sustainability’ |
Article submissions are encouraged for a special issue of the journal Sustainability that will be titled, “Advances and Innovations in Sustainability Education: Higher Education as an Avenue for Social Change”. In recognition that sustainability is fundamentally about social change, the issue will explore research, practices and theory currently shaping the field of sustainability education as an important driver of social change. The deadline for submissions is June 30.

AASHE Member Discount: $100 Off Sustainability Certification Through ISSP |
The International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) offers students, faculty and staff from AASHE-member schools a $100 discount on the ISSP Sustainability Associate (ISSP-SA) credential exam. The program is designed to recognize the knowledge, skills and abilities of those in the sustainability field, including students with knowledge of core sustainability concepts.

Udall Undergraduate Scholarship |
The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment. In 2019, the Udall Foundation anticipates awarding 50 scholarships of up to $7,000 each. The application deadline is March 7.

Projects That Matter |
Projects That Matter is a free nonprofit website connecting practitioners, students, faculty and volunteers with real world sustainable development projects. Researchers and practitioners can register their projects, and students and volunteers can search the database for course projects, independent study, thesis, capstone, and alternative assignments and activities. The platform is an initiative of the U.S. Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development in collaboration with Changing the Present.
