Bike packing with 718 Cyclery
|
|
Earlier this month, Old Spokes Home co-hosted a weekend-long bike packing trip in the Green Mountain National Forest with 718 Cyclery out of Brooklyn, NY. About 20 riders trekked north from NYC and joined a crew from the shop, and the cohort spent the weekend suffering up hills, making new friends, and cooking over an open flame.
We had a blast — thank you, 718! We’re already looking forward to hosting more trips like this next season.

Basement Tapes:
Reports from Bike Recycle Vermont
|
|
Bike Recycle Vermont’s recent blog post, “Summer 2015: 10 Magical Moments in the Shop,” shared some great anecdotal stories from this summer.
This month we’re providing some hard numbers to illustrate the shop’s impact in a different way:
428: Bicycles provided through Get A Bike Program
780+: number of repairs performed by volunteers and staff
4.5: tons of metal recycled through the shop
65%: estimated percentage of shop recycling that was brought to the dump on our bike trailer
11: number of bicycles we returned to their rightful owners thanks to help from customers, other bike shops, community connections, and some investigative work from staff
25: number of bicycles distributed through partners at Pathways to Housing Vermont, Spectrum Youth and Family Services, and Burlington High School.
2: Number of custom bicycles we built for women who rely on their bikes for commuting and running their businesses.
It was a spectacular summer and it wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing volunteers and everyone’s support. Thank you!
