“Bee Girl” Presentations @ Hildene

Save these two dates!
MAY 28 Last Best Hope
President Lincoln appealed to “the better angels of our nature” when he urged citizens to rededicate themselves to the promise of American democracy as “the last best hope of earth.” In his second annual address, he asks, “Can we do better?” Hildene’s annual Last Best Hope program features speakers whose transformative experiences, engaging in something larger than themselves, are changing the world for the better and inspiring others to answer the call to action on whatever issues impassion them.  This year’s speaker, Sarah Red-Laird, a.k.a. “the Bee Girl,” is the dynamic founder and director of Bee Girl, an organization whose mission is to inspire and empower communities to conserve bees and their habitat.  As US Ambassador of the International Bee Research Association’s BEEWORLD project and the Kids & Bees director for the American Beekeeping Federation, Sarah will focus on the motivations, as well as the challenges of getting involved in something larger than herself and why she perseveres.  5:30 to 6:30 pm. Free and open to the public. Seating is limited and reservations strongly recommended: email Stephanie or call 802.367.7960.

MAY 30 Bee Safari
Join Bee Girl, Sarah Red-Laird for a workshop and walkabout focusing on pollinator identification and habitat enhancement. The US is home to more than 4000 species of native bees, and there are about 400 species living in the North East. Collectively, they represent the most important pollinators of our native plants, and assist honey bees in the pollination of our food. Discover the incredible life of bees with Sarah Red-Laird, the Bee Girl. Learn to recognize the major groups, study biology, critical habitat requirements and threats they face. And, of course, you’ll have lots of fun chasing bees! 9:00 to Noon in the Beckwith Room. Hildene Members $8. Non-members $10. Space is limited and reservations strongly recommended: email Stephanie or call 802.367.7960.
