Green Mountain Compost Facility Tour
Tuesday, April 5, 2016 Depart campus at 12:30pm (meet by van behind Rowell Hall); return by 2:15pm
Green Mountain Compost is where we send all of our food scraps from campus to be composted. In 2011, Chittenden Solid Waste District closed the doors on the Burlington site (formerly known as Intervale Compost) and constructed a brand new, state-of-the-art composting facility eight miles west in Williston, Vermont. In early 2012 they launched the new Green Mountain Compost brand and name to reflect all the progress they’ve made with the new facility, nestled in the foothills of the scenic Green Mountains.

Safety requirements: We require closed-toe shoes and suggest that all participants wear shoes that cover the entire foot. Anyone wearing sandals, flip-flops, or other strappy/open shoes will not be allowed on the tour. We will provide safety vests, which must be worn at all times.
Weather and comfort: Tours are mostly outdoors and take place regardless of the weather. It can be raining or cold and windy. You should also keep in mind that compost is dirty business—you’ll be happier with footwear and clothing that isn’t phased by mud, dust or rotten tomatoes.
**Minimum of 6 people are need for the tour to happen.**
