My name is Anne and I have just completed an internship at Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports, Vermont’s largest nonprofit organization to provide adaptive sports and recreation to people with disabilities. We are currently hiring for winter interns and  we are reaching out to various outdoor recreation programs. This is a one of a kind opportunity to be able to work in Vermont and gain invaluable training in therapeutic recreation. Internship Opportunities at Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports

Locations: Pico Mountain in Killington, VT; Sugarbush Resort in Waitsfield, VT; Bolton Valley Resort in

Waterbury, VT

An internship with Vermont Adaptive is a full time, semester long position. The intern works under the

supervision of the program coordinator. They work directly with students with physical, cognitive and

developmental disabilities in recreational activities. Interns must be available to work flexible hours

including weekends, evenings and holidays.

Winter Internship Start Date: December 1st, 2015

End Date: April 1st, 2016

Practicums and Service Learning Hours may be requested year round

Description: The Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports internship is designed to provide learning and hands-

on experiences to individuals interested in Adaptive Sports, Therapeutic Recreation and Adventure

Recreation to gain knowledge and professional experience in these growing fields. Interns are a valuable

resource for Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports. Over the last few years our internship program has grown

and expanded to include summer as well as winter programs. Interns get hands on experience in all aspects

of programming, ski and snowboard instructing and event planning.

Responsibilities/Qualifications:

All interns must be at least 18 years of age with a clean driving record and reliable transportation

Assist the Program Coordinator with overall operations

Communicate effectively with volunteers, staff and coordinator both within Vermont Adaptive

and with partnering organizations

Must be Proficient in either skiing or snowboarding

First aid and CPR certification, Wilderness First Responder training preferred

Enrolled in, or recently completed a college/university track related to outdoor programming,

therapeutic recreation, adventure education, special education, physical therapy or related field

Attend three volunteer training days

Competency in computer programs: Word, Excel, and Publisher

Commitment to the entire season (December-April)

Vermont Adaptive is looking for interns who are self-motivated, take initiative and have some

experience or desire to learn about working with people with disabilities and adventure recreation.

It is helpful to have ski and snowboard instructing experience and the ability to work well with

others

All interns must have a strong work ethic, flexibility, a love for the outdoors, an open mind and a

love for working with people

Salary/Benefits:

Possible stipend available

Season ski pass– for 400 hr internship plus—only one position available at each program location

Adaptive instructor training

Training and Certification opportunities with PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America)

Interns are exposed to the benefits of living and working in Vermont

Interns receive individualized support throughout the internship period

An orientation will be provided for new interns

Intern must write a 1 page testimonial of their experience at Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports to be

submitted to Program Coordinator upon completion of internship

Vermont Adaptive Intern Responsibilities

To be considered for an internship at Vermont Adaptive please:

1. Provide the appropriate coordinator with a personal resume or curriculum vitae.

2. Submit a completed Internship Application form.

3. Submit a completed University Supervisor Agreement form signed by your sponsoring

4. Submit a copy of your current C.P.R. and First aid certifications and any other relevant

certifications.

Once accepted for an internship, as well as operating as a de-facto staff member assessing,

teaching, and documenting activities for Vermont Adaptive participants, the student’s

assignments will include, but are not limited to:

1. Provide written goals for the internship.

2. Attend a site tour arranged by the coordinator.

3. Maintain weekly or biweekly meetings with the coordinator.

4. Communicate schedule with coordinator in advance to schedule days and projects.

5. Assist in implementation of a special event such as Ski-a-thon, Ski Challenge or the

USABA winter weekend.

6. Write an article for the Vermont Adaptive newsletter/share a story of your experience.

7. Attend on snow trainings in December.

Vermont Adaptive understands the importance of providing students with a meaningful learning
