Admin Assistant position for Environmental Program

“POSITION: The Environmental Program at the University of Vermont (UVM) seeks an Administrative Assistant to provide office, business and reception support for the Program. We intend to hire a highly organized individual with excellent communication and people skills. The Program hosts the interdisciplinary major in Environmental Studies for over 500 majors in a wide range of concentrations.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Administrative Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day administrative functions of the Environmental Program. The successful candidate for this position will provide office, business and student support for the Program’s academic and research activities.  This person will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Director of the Environmental Program and to other faculty, staff and students based in the Bittersweet building. Duties include: fielding questions from students and visitors, scheduling, financial process support, arranging travel, staffing meetings, maintaining databases, supervising work study assistants, ensuring proper functioning of the building, photocopying and other projects as assigned.  The Administrative Assistant is responsible for ensuring positive and effective relationships on behalf of the Program within and outside of UVM.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have an associate’s degree and a minimum of two years of relevant administrative experience. Applicants should possess administrative and financial support skills, organizational and communication skills, and computer knowledge of Microsoft Office. Also desired, but not required, is familiarity with UVM administrative processes and software. The position requires initiative in problem solving, excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task. Must have a positive, helpful and people-centered attitude. Interest in environmental issues is a plus.
