This is a part-time, seasonal position, beginning in late June and running through the end of August. Must be available to work weekends and holidays.  Pay rate is $10/hour.

Job Summary:

Join our team in getting children and adults excited about history!  Our part-time, seasonal education specialist / ROV pilot fulfills two roles, being able to engage and educate the general public and school children, all while operating an ROV, (Remotely Operated Vehicle).

·       Throughout the months of July and August, our education specialist will guide school groups and the general public through a Shipwrecks! program. These programs will focus on 4 specific shipwrecks in Burlington Harbor. The educator’s role is to know the history of all 4 wrecks and to be able to answer questions about general lake history.

·       The educator will also be responsible for flying the ROV. This entails flying an ROV down to one of the 4 wrecks in Burlington Harbor, in order to show people on the tour a real time image of the shipwreck.

The right individual for this work is knowledgeable about, or at least interested and willing to learn history, and is able to project that in an enthusiastic manner to visitors of all ages, walks of life, and learning styles. This person will also be comfortable with technology, and operating an ROV.  We will train the right energetic, engaging, safety-conscious and team-oriented individual.

Education and Experience:

·      A background in education, history, and/or archaeology preferred.

·      Knowledge of lake ecology desired.

·      Must enjoy working with children.

·       Previous experience piloting an ROV a plus, but not required. We will train the right candidate.

Qualifications:

·       Excellent communications skills required.

·      Must be able to stand for 2-4 hours at a time, and perform some light lifting.

·      Self-motivated, team oriented, and enthusiastic.

·       Safety-conscious a must.

 

·       Experience with boats and being on the water.
