Job Description – SeaPlan Internship
Organization Overview:
SeaPlan is an independent not-for-profit organization working toward vibrant coastal economies sustained by healthy oceans and supported by best practices in ocean management. Since 2006, SeaPlan has worked in partnership with government, marine dependent industry, the scientific community, and conservation organizations. Primary practice areas include data integration and analysis, ocean use characterization, decision support tools development, stakeholder engagement and communications, indicators development and program design and management. SeaPlan is currently a team of 8 full time staff and several subcontracted professional service teams.
Position Summary:
The intern will work on a portfolio of SeaPlan projects emphasizing science and stakeholder engagement for ocean planning. Primary responsibilities will include issue research, staff support and management of special projects. Other duties include data entry, supporting project-related stakeholder outreach, communications and attending meetings at relevant conferences. The position is based in Boston.
Duties and Responsibilities:
 Project organization, research and report production with support of senior staffers
 Review, synthesize, and summarize relevant media stories to SeaPlan’s work via social media and internal communications.
 Assist with writing, researching, and producing stories for SeaPlan news publications.
 Attend and draft conference/meeting notes
 Data entry in Customer relationship management (CRM) database
 Business opportunity research and workflow development
Minimum Qualifications:
 BS/BA in the natural or social sciences, public policy, or related field
o Seniors/Junior considered with appropriate experience
 Ability to organize/prioritize workload to meet demands in a fast- paced environment
 Ability to effectively work, clearly communicate and interact in a team environment
 Strong communication skills – written, oral and interpersonal
 Computer proficiency including command of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation
and data base software (Microsoft Office)
Preferred Qualifications:
 Knowledge of issues, trends and developments in coastal/ ocean policy, and management
 Experience translating complex information for non-technical audiences
 Familiarity with GIS
 Knowledge of Salesforce
Full or Part-Time:
SeaPlan offers internships part-time during the school year and part- or full-time in the summer. Offsite work is negotiable.
