United Way’s Volunteer Connection site is set up to help connect agencies and volunteers. Agencies are working hard to navigate volunteering during this time, so the opportunities are limited. Here is a link for Volunteer Connection to learn more about these and other opportunities.
A DRVING NEED – Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired has an on-going need for Volunteer Drivers to get clients in Chittenden County to where they need to go. Their volunteer driver pool is desperately low and they are currently unable to fulfill all the rides needed. Just a few hours a week can help someone with vision loss get to a vital medical appointment, put food on their table, and run important errands.
You can drive as much as much or little as you want. Even one ride per week helps our clients to remain independent. Drivers are reimbursed mileage for the use of their cars. Background checks are required. Contact Vicki Vest at vvest@vabvi.org or call 1-800-639-5861 ext.243.
HELP PLAN THE WALK – Alzheimer’s Association, Vermont Chapter needs volunteers to help plan their Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Join the Planning Committee and help plan the event from kick-off to wrap-up. Some committee members focus on growing the event by recruiting teams, getting Walk materials out in the community and securing sponsorships. Others focus on event production and find ways to enhance the event experience. To learn more, contact Emily Vivyan at ervivyan@alz.org.
YOUTH SOCCER COACH – Under the direction of Winooski Recreation and Parks and in partnership withVermont Patriots, Volunteer Youth Head Soccer Coaches work closely with the Vermont Patriots Board to create a positive learning environment where children can play soccer with a focus on sportsmanship, fundamental skills, teamwork, and responsibility. This youth soccer program emphasizes skill development, fair play, cooperation, and fun. VOLUNTEER DRIVERS – Champlain Islanders Developing Essential Resources (CIDER) needs volunteers to transport (primarily) older adults living in Grand Isle County to medical appointments or therapy, as well as destinations such as grocery stores and pharmacies. Most trips are to locations in Saint Albans or the Greater Burlington area. Volunteers use their own automobiles and can be reimbursed for their mileage (currently 56 cents per mile to and from their home). Trips are scheduled through the CIDER office and usually with at least 48 hours notice. Volunteers may drive when they like and it is always ok to say “no”. We do not operate during bad weather. Background checks are required of all CIDER drivers.
During the current health crisis masks are required by both drivers and riders. We do not transport individuals with COVID-like symptoms nor do we transport individuals to COVID tests except when the rider is required to have a test for another type of medical treatment. Volunteers should be between the ages of 21 and 80. Contact Deb Piché at cidervt@sover.net or call 802-372-6425.

Big Brothers Bigs Sisters of Vermont is looking for adults to spend 2-4 hour per month mentoring a youth age 6-17. Community-based, site-based, and online options available. Volunteers are provided with training and ongoing staff support for the duration of the match. Background check required. To apply, click here: Volunteer Application
