The early deadline for The Fund for American Studies Summer 2020 D.C. Academic Internship Program is coming up on December 10. We’ve also included information about the Service + Citizenship Academy for students interested in civic engagement and nonprofit work.
We are awarding more than 40 full tuition + housing scholarships to help the best and brightest students attend this summer’s program. Please nominate outstanding students for special scholarship consideration.
Program components include:
- Course credit from George Mason University
- Placement in an engaging internship
- Furnished on-campus housing
- Professional development and networking activities

Explore the Social Sector in Washington, DC this Summer
The Service + Citizenship Academy is a supplemental program designed to complement your nonprofit internship experience as a participant in one of the summer TFAS program tracks. Learn how you can make a local and global impact through a social sector career, volunteerism and community leadership.
As part of the cohort, you’ll:
- Attend lectures about the intersection of issues charities are trying to solve and the public policy process.
- Impact the Washington, DC community firsthand by participating in local service projects.
- Expand your network through site-briefings and panels with nonprofit leaders and scholars.

Full + Partial Scholarships
We strive to make the programs accessible and affordable to the best and brightest students regardless of financial status. Scholarships are awarded based on need and merit.
At least 40 scholarships that cover tuition and housing expenses will be provided to summer applicants on a rolling basis beginning at the December 10 early application deadline.
Awardees are responsible for the $500 program fee, travel to Washington, food/personal expenses during the program.
