Calling all crafters!
Champlain’s student group Yarn for Good is seeking knitters and crocheters to contribute 5×5″ squares for the blanket they are contributing to the Heritage Winooski Mill Museum’s Welcome Blanket project. Welcome Blanket is a national nonprofit that partners with craft museums and social service agencies to engage local communities in welcoming immigrants and refugees to the United States. The Mill Museum is hosting a Welcome Blanket exhibition from December 1 to February 26 and partnering with AALV, the Association of Africans Living in Vermont, to distribute the blankets in our community.
Contributions must be made with washable yarn; the yarn weight, color, and pattern are up to you. Many local craft stores are offering yarn discounts, maker gatherings, and tutorials for crafters contributing to this project; a full list is available on the Mill Museum’s website.
For more info on Yarn for Good’s blanket contribution, contact yarnforgood@champlain.edu or stop by their weekly gathering in Fireside Lounge every Tuesday from 4:30-6 pm.
