Girls on the Run is a statewide non-profit program where social-emotional learning is the cornerstone of research-based lessons, designed specifically for the challenges that 3rd – 5th or 6th – 8th-grade girls face today. The curriculum creatively integrates accessible physical activity to instill confidence and healthy decision-making skills. While covid forced us to cancel our ’20 season, we have been building back and are looking forward to providing a safe and successful 2022 season. A collaboration with Champlain College could be as simple as sharing a volunteer opportunity with your students who may be looking for ways to mentor girls in grades 3 – 8. Or a creative relationship we could both benefit from, such as a coaching internship program. Our 8-week program begins in February with a one-day training of volunteer coaches, meets two days/wk March through May, and culminates with a celebratory 5k in early June. We are currently looking for volunteer coaches. I realize the 5k extends the academic year – however, the most critical time occurs during the school year.
