I am writing to share a service learning/community volunteer opportunity with you. Next week, the Green Mountain Returned Peace Corps Association and Pedals for Progress Vermont will be collecting used bicycles and sewing machines to distribute overseas.
Since 1991, Pedals for Progress has diverted 162,399 bicycles and 5,242 sewing machines from the solid waste stream, while also creating important economic livelihood opportunities for countless recipients internationally. To learn more about Pedals for Progress mission and goals, please reference our web page or Facebook group.
To that end, we are looking for volunteers to help us staff two collection events in Montpelier and Burlington on September 24-25. We need greeters, receipt writers, bike disassemblers, and bike loaders (volunteer descriptions attached). Would you mind sharing this volunteer opportunity with your students and/or other service learning coordinators at neighboring schools and universities? We do need students to confirm their participation before the event, rather than walk-ins at the event, please. Interested students should email Paul Demers (cc’ed here) at demers.paul5@gmail.com to sign up for a shift.
Thank you so much for helping us to spread the word and to identify volunteers for this worthwhile and rewarding event! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Sincerely,
Wendy Rice
