Social Media for Climate Activism
FIVE HOURS PER WEEK, Feb 1-April 12, 20201 / Virtual Internship
Gain valuable practical experience working with a team of students from across the world in the development, execution and assessment of a social media campaign in support of a global climate education project, Solve Climate By 2030. This is a VIRTUAL INTERNSHIP. You can participate from anywhere on the planet. You must be available for group strategy meetings, presentations and on-line discussion Monday every week from 8 PM – 10 PM ET (New York time) for US participants, or every week from 11 AM – 1 PM ET (New York time) for international participants. In addition, you must commit to an additional three hours of group and individual work each week. The internship begins on February 1, 2021 and runs through April 12, 2020 for a total of 10 weeks. Solve Climate By 2030 is mobilizing US and international educators to engage over 100,000 students in dialog about ambitious action to stabilize the climate. It culminates on the evening of April 7, 2021, with 100+ simultaneous, university-hosted webinars, one in fifty countries worldwide, and every US state, and in DC and Puerto Rico. These dialogs will reveal ambitious things that need doing in Ghana and Germany, Vietnam and Columbia, Kyrgyzstan and Australia, if we really aim to stop climate change. Across the world, students can ask their teachers to #makeclimateaclass, by assigning their regional webinar as homework, and then using our course-specific guides to talking about climate change in courses on art, biology, philosophy, music, engineering or language and many other subjects.
Intern teams will design, deliver, and evaluate a social media campaign in support of Solve Climate By 2030. Guest speakers and discussion will focus on the theory and practice of using social media to engage audiences in climate action. Interns who complete the program will receive a certificate, and can request letters of recommendation from Dr. Eban Goodstein, Director of the Bard Graduate Programs in Sustainability, which is the organization sponsoring the internship.
