FAIR TRADE 101 | NEWS | ORGANIZE
We know that with the fall comes a continued “new normal” with many campuses still closed and social distancing measures in place to slow the spread of COVID-19.
That’s why we’re taking a different approach this fall and are excited to launch a new program, Fair Fall. Running from September through the end of the year each month’s theme gives you, our passionate and dedicated advocates, opportunities to continue to learn and grow in your advocacy for Fair Trade and social justice.
Read on for more on Fair Fall, ways to advocate for Fair Trade coffee and support essential workers in honor of International Coffee Day on September 29th and an appeal from Fair Trade Lebanon in the wake of the recent disaster in Beirut.
Take care,
-Kylie & the Fair Trade Campaigns team
Join Us For Fair Fall!
We’re excited to announce the launch of our Fair Fall program – we hope you’ll join us and share with your team members, peers and communities.
Fair Fall is all about staying engaged through education, action & reflection. Each month we’ll share a different theme with resources, tools and action steps to help keep you and your team engaged in Fair Trade, social justice and sustainability. We will also be rolling out new tools to drive conversation and interaction with all of you, so stay tuned!
We’re kicking off the campaign with September’s theme of Self-Care. It seems like there’s never been a more important time to take care of ourselves and avoid burnout than now. Next up, in October we will be focusing on Racial Justice, November on Fair Trade and Food Justice, and December will be dedicated to looking back on what we’ve learned from 2020 as we set our sights on a new year.

Support Fair Trade Coffee Farmers & Essential Workers with Just One Cup
In honor of International Coffee Day on September 29th, we’re partnering with Fair Trade USA again this year on Just One Cup – a campaign to raise awareness around the benefits and impact of Fair Trade coffee.
The ongoing global coffee price crisis and pandemic have created the perfect storm in the coffee industry, driving prices below the cost of production in most countries. Labor shortages, price volatility, and decreased demand are driving farmers out of business. Something has to change to save the future of coffee, starting with our choices.
This year, there is an opportunity to connect the role that Fair Trade coffee plays in our lives and in coffee producing communities to the critical role that essential workers play in our own communities. Be sure to check out the Buy a Bag, Give a Bag promotion that will be rolled out on Fair Trade USA’s Instagram beginning September 17 to see how you can support the brave people carrying us all through the pandemic.
Learn more about how you can take action to support coffee farmers, and gift a bag of Fair Trade coffee to essential workers throughout September!
An Appeal from Fair Trade Lebanon
On Tuesday, August 4th, a catastrophic explosion shook the port of Beirut and affected many highly-populated areas, historical neighborhoods, and tourist sites. In just a few seconds, a huge section of the city was completely destroyed. More than 180 people died, dozens are still missing, around 6,000 people were injured and over a quarter million people became homeless.
Following the unprecedented explosion, the “Fair Citizen Initiative” was launched to provide relief. With nine Fair Trade Villages, Fair Trade Lebanon is part of the International Fair Trade Towns Network.
Now, Fair Trade Lebanon is calling on Fair Trade advocates across the world to support relief efforts for Beirut by making a donation. Any amount helps!
