In collaboration with the university’s director of American Indian Studies, the university developed and recently released an official land acknowledgement recognizing Indigenous Peoples that were stewards of the land on which the university now exists.

Virtual Workshop: Coping With Climate Anxiety in the Classroom and for Yourself
This two-hour, online workshop, happening April 9 from 3 – 5 p.m. Eastern time, is for faculty to understand their own emotions around eco-grief and eco-anxiety in order to create and hold space for students to integrate and process hard realities about climate change impacts. A short overview of research on climate change education and pedagogies will be followed by four experiential activities that can be used in the classroom. The deadline to register is April 8. The University of Hawaiʻi is an AASHE Center for Sustainability Across the Curriculum.
Online Engagement Opportunities for Earth Day & Beyond
While in-person Earth Day programming has been canceled to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a number of online engagement opportunities are happening in April to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

Operational Recommendations for Higher Education During COVID-19 Shutdowns
Released by TVA EnergyRight for Business and Industry, the “COVID-19 Response: Modified Operations Recommendations for Higher Education” resource provides guidelines for turning off or adjusting electronics, appliances, and energy and water systems across campus, as well as sanitation, maintenance and operational practices to undertake while facilities are unoccupied.
