Burlington Halloween Bike Ride
Yep. It’s October. Besides the beautiful leaves and cooler riding weather, there’s something else to be excited about. Something… spooky. Spooky and spooky.
The Halloween Bike Ride!
This year’s ride (the 10th anniversary!) is on Sunday, October 27th. Suit up and join hundreds of fellow Burlingtonians for a Halloween party on wheels, featuring a meandering 3-mile route through town, a costume contest, and a sweet end-of-ride party with free pizza, dancing, and bike portraits.
Critical Mass RideÂ
Last Friday, in the wake of global climate strikes, cyclists took to the streets for the third Burlington Critical Mass ride. These monthly rides gather a “critical mass” of cyclists who ride around town to protest our car-centric society, and spread the good word about active transportation.
50 cyclists cruised through Burlington, playing music and creating a spectacle. The mood was cheerful – besides promoting emission-free transportation, the rides are a blast! We got a few happy honks from cars, whose drivers no doubt wished they could join. The ride ended at Old Spokes Home, where riders enjoyed beverages supplied by 350VT and pizza generously provided by Folinos.
Come join us on this month’s ride – details are still to come, but will be available on our Facebook Events Page.
Volunteer at the Fall Fundo
We’re just a week and a half out from the Fall Fundo, and we’re pretty excited! All the details are falling into place. But, we’re still looking for some extra hands on deck to make sure the ride goes smoothly.
We need a few more volunteers – folks who can staff the rest stops, photograph the ride, and bake pies. If you can contribute your time or expertise, we’d love to have you! As always, volunteering at Old Spokes Home counts towards your City Market member volunteer hours.
Mechanics 101 Class
Colder weather is coming in, and things are relaxing on the floor. That gives us an opportunity to start running more classes!
Our 6-week long Mechanics 101 class starts on October 16th.
Drop-in Maintenance Mondays are the first Monday of the month – come in next Monday to work on your bike! Flat Fix and Commuter classes will start on Mondays in November – stay tuned!
Youth Earn-A-Bike Program We’re excited to announce: the Earn-A-Bike program!
We’re excited to announce: the Earn-A-Bike program!
Earn-A-Bike is a two-week after school program, designed to provide students with a bike and basic maintenance skills. Each student will choose a used bicycle, then refurbish it with the help of staff and volunteers. Before hitting the streets, students will receive safe riding skills instruction, a helmet, and a lock.
