MENTOR! MENTOR! – Watershed Mentoring is seeking mentors for school-aged children and adolescents that are “at promise” in Franklin County. Mentors meet with youth, age 5-18, for an hour or 2 in the community year-round or with a child during school lunch and recess for an hour a week while school is in session. ON THE SHELF – Northwest Family Foods needs volunteers at the Food Shelf mornings between 9 a.m. and Noon. Tasks include weighing, sorting and shelving donations and helping the coordinator with pick-ups from local donors. Contact Toni Auriemma at 527-7392, Ext. 106, or email tauriemma@cvoeo.org.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTRUCTORS – Migrant Education Program is looking for volunteer ESL instructors to provide home-based English language instruction for out-of-school migrant farmworker youth, ages 16-22, on Vermont farms. Sessions are usually weekly for 1-2 hours, but the student and volunteer can set a frequency that works for them. Volunteers must have conversational ability in Spanish and experience teaching English to speakers of other languages. Materials and optional training provided. Mileage reimbursement is available. KEEPING ACTIVE – Care Partners Adult Day Center offers meaningful activities to stimulate the minds and bodies of frail adults. They are looking for volunteers to help with a craft project, play a game, read a story, share a hobby or just chit-chat and provide reassurance. Two or more hours once or twice a week. MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A CHILD! – Foster Grandparents Program invites volunteers, age 55 and over, to become Foster Grandparents at preschools, child cares, Head Starts, and elementary schools. Volunteers serve between 15 and 40 hours a week and receive a small, non-taxable stipend. Tasks include tutoring, mentoring, and self-esteem building. Placements are available throughout Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle Counties. Background check required. BE A BUDDY! – Ethan Allen Residence is seeking volunteers for their Walking Buddies Program to walk with elders in the neighborhood. Many residents love to walk but need a “buddy” for added safety. HALF-MARATHON – RunVermont is gearing up for its annual Half Marathon on April 13th from Airport Park in Colchester to Flynn Avenue in Burlington.
