A study away semester for you: Expedition Education Institute

A study away semester for you:

This message is to let you know about a unique off campus semester program that you might be interested in.  The Expedition Education Institute (EEI) offers travel-study away programs in ecological leadership and environmental studies that are accredited through Marlboro College in VT. Each 15 credit semester program is deeply experiential, fully outdoors, academically rigorous and an adventure in learning within community.

Is this the semester away for you?

· Are you looking for an exciting traveling semester that is both academic and experiential?

· Do you yearn to spend more time outside and in connection with nature?

· Do you want to grow, learn, reflect and engage with a group of peers where you deal with real issues and solve problems together, where you create a supportive and appropriately challenging learning community?

· Are you ready to be inspired to make a difference, to be the change?

Here is a quick list of some of the typical outcomes from spending a semester “on a bus.” In this program you will have many opportunities to practice various forms of leadership and of teaching and learning. You will learn how to speak up so others will listen among many other communication skills and approaches. A semester on the bus is a full immersion and integration of academics and life. Alums say they “learned more than they ever thought possible, all while never feeling like they were in class.” Of course, this speaks to the common expectation of “class” being a place of passively receiving information rather than being engaged in learning. We support you to turn that around so you can find and engage in learning opportunities everywhere, including in traditional classes, for the rest of your life.

Here’s a brief synopsis of this program:  EEI leads traveling college semesters that allow students to immerse themselves in the ecology, culture, and landscape in one of America’s bioregions. Living fully outdoors and meeting with individuals and organizations working to create a sustainable future, students dive deeply into the issues that confront us, with significant opportunities to develop their leadership skills and investigate their passions and gifts. Every semester’s journey allows students to forge deep connections with the natural world, to the members of their traveling learning community, and to their own core values and enthusiasms.

The fall semester takes place in the Pacific Northwest, starting in Mount Rainier in WA and ending in Point Reyes just north of the Bay area in CA. The theme of the semester is Ecology, Economy, and Community.

The spring 2020 semester will take place in California, starting in Anza Borrego Desert State Park in the very south and ending north of San Francisco. The theme of the semester is Sustainable (Regenerative) culture and agriculture

We accept and process applications from current college students at all times of the year (each school has their own internal deadlines for study away).  However, the last chance to apply for the fall 2019 semester is April 15th.

This is a life-changing opportunity!
