What is it?
The Newman Civic Fellowship recognizes and supports community-committed students who have demonstrated an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country. The fellowship provides training and resources that nurture students’ assets and passions to help them develop strategies to achieve social change. Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides learning opportunities focused on the skills fellows need in order to serve as effective agents of change in addressing public problems and building equitable communities.
What’s new?
- The goals of the Newman Civic Fellowship are to support the civic, personal, and professional development of fellows and to build a network of civically oriented college students and alumni.
- The fellowship is a one-year experience, during which time fellows have access to in-person and virtual learning opportunities, networking events, and mentoring.
- We are excited to offer new program components to fellows including: a national convening of Newman Civic Fellows, regional and state gatherings of Newman Civic Fellows, a webinar series focused on skill development and professional learning, a self-reflection tool to help fellows track their growth, and access to a local mentor.
- All of these program offerings will be organized around our new program learning outcomes, which were informed by feedback collected from a variety of constituencies within our network.
How can my institution get involved?
Presidents and chancellors from Campus Compact member institutions are invited to nominate a student for the fellowship each year. The 2017 nomination cycle will open on Nov. 16th 2016, stay tuned for more information and read more about the redesign process here!
