The Winooski Valley Park District has several exciting Education Opportunities for Environmental Educators and Organizations this spring!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR 30TH CONSERVATION FIELD DAY!

The WVPD hosts over 300 students to participate in exciting hands-on activities each spring for their annual Conservation Field Day!

When: Wednesday May 18, 2016             8:30am – 1:00pm

Where: Ethan Allen Homestead, Burlington

What: Volunteers are needed to lead engaging, hands-on workshops to 5th grade students from schools in the WVPD’s member towns. Workshops should focus on environmental or conservation education topics. Examples of workshops are: composting, wildlife corridors & habitats, soils, watershed, fisheries, water ecology – we hope to offer a variety of workshops within those topics and are open to new topics and activities. As a volunteer workshop leader you will lead five (5) of the same workshop to five (5) different groups of students. Each group will have between 10-15 students accompanied by at least one adult chaperone.  Each workshop must last at least 20 minutes, there will be a 10 minute transition time in between each workshop.

CAMP COUNSELORS NEEDED FOR SUMMER CAMP!

The WVPD is looking for Camp Counselors to lead campers at their Sustainable Outdoor Leadership EducationS.O.L.E. Camp. S.O.L.E. Camp is a nature based, outdoor adventure day camp based at the Ethan Allen Homestead in Burlington, that strives to empower youth to be comfortable exploring nature and to develop a sense of place by encouraging curiosity, observation and respect. Camp starts the week of June 27, and ends the week of August 15.

Available Positions:

Head Counselors

–  Full time, 40 hrs./week

–  Eight camp weeks, plus at least 1 week for planning and training prior to start of camp.

–   $12/hr.

–  Responsible for leading a group of at least 10 (max 15) campers in all aspects of the camp day (activity prep, leading activities & games, field trips, snack/lunch, safety, behavior & group management, discipline, etc.).

Assistant Counselors

– Full time, 40 hrs./week

– Eight camp weeks, plus up to 1 week for training prior to start of camp.

– $11/hr.

– Assist Head Counselors to lead group of at least 10 (potentially more, max 15) campers in all aspects of the camp day (activities prep & leading, games, field trips, snack/lunch, safety, behavior & group management, etc.).

Volunteers/Interns

–   Up to 40 hrs./week

–   Eight weeks, plus training dates (up to a week)

–   Non-paid, eligible for credit

–   Would assist Head and Assistant Counselors in overseeing group of at least 10 (max 15) campers in all aspects of camp day.
