MIT Initiates Crowdsourcing for Climate Mitigation Ideas
The university recently launched a crowdsourcing contest to identify projects that reduce campus emissions and highlight the potential for scaleable, educational solutions as a living laboratory. The challenge is part of a new series of contests launched by the MIT Climate CoLab, a crowdsourcing platform of over 50,000 members. Universities Help Launch ‘Intentional Endowments Network’
Nearly 20 universities recently announced the formal launch of the Intentional Endowments Network. To support the development of intentionally designed endowments, the network facilitates peer-to-peer connection and learning, thought leadership and collaborative action. This peer-learning network engages senior decision-makers and key stakeholders in dialogue around the full range of options related to sustainable investing.

U British Columbia Bolsters City’s Climate Action Potential
Student participants of the 2015 Greenest City Scholars cohort have worked with the city of Vancouver on specific sustainability projects including water and food challenges. The projects target the city’s ability to be resilient in the face of climate challenges. Since 2010, the Greenest City Scholars Program has brought together a total of 79 graduate students from the University of British Columbia.

Denver Green Power Boot Camp: Registration Closing Soon
This workshop, held in association with the University of Colorado Boulder, is designed to help participants develop an integrated renewable energy strategy, including both on- and off-site approaches. Learn how to pull the curtain back on project economics, engaging internal decision-makers, and navigating the marketplace of renewable energy options, with a deep dive on contracting power purchase agreements from high-impact, large-scale, off-site renewable energy projects. The workshop is part of the Green Gigawatt Partnership, which is designed to catalyze at least one gigawatt of new renewable energy in higher education by 2020. This half-day workshop includes a lunch and will take place from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30 at National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s campus in Golden, Colorado. Please register by March 23.
Invitation to Create Questions for Sustainability Literacy Test
The Sustainability Literacy Test is designed to assess and improve the quality of sustainability education for undergraduates around the world. In the U.S., AASHE is part of the governance and is participating to create a revised and updated version 2 test that addresses knowledge about sustainability challenges and skills required to create systemic change for a sustainable future. Anyone is invited to participate in drafting version 2 questions.
2016 Star of Energy Efficiency Awards
The Alliance to Save Energy invites schools and individuals to submit a nomination that spotlights your organization or another group or individual that has made significant strides toward leadership and commitment in the energy efficiency field. This year’s awards will be presented Sept. 22 in Washington, D.C., at the Alliance’s 24th Evening with the Stars of Energy Efficiency Awards dinner. Nominations are accepted by April 1.
Call for Applications: 2016 Fuller Challenge
Each year, The Buckminster Fuller Institute (BFI) invites scientists, designers, architects and students from all over the world to submit their innovative solutions to some of humanity’s most pressing problems. A $100,000 prize is awarded to support the development and implementation of one outstanding strategy. New in 2016 is the Fuller Challenge for Students category. BFI will identify and support outstanding student proposals from currently enrolled, university-level individual students and student teams. While student proposals will not be in the running for the $100,000 grand prize, the selected finalists and winner will receive support, media recognition and benefits through BFI’s Catalyst Program. Deadline for entry is April 1 at 5 p.m. Eastern.
Call for Applications: Sierra Youth Coalition’s Executive Committee 2016-2017
Sierra Youth Coalition is currently recruiting dedicated, empowered and proactive youth leaders for a seat on its Executive Committee. The official decision-making body, the committee is comprised of nine youth from across the U.S and is responsible for shaping the Sierra Youth Coalition’s direction, organizational governance and supporting the staff team.
Sustainability Culture Indicator Pilot: AASHE Member 50% Discount Ends Soon
Developed in 2011 and since used in dozens of organizations around the world, the Sustainability Culture Indicator is an online survey for measuring the key elements of sustainability in organizational culture. In order to develop case studies of the application of the Sustainability Culture Indicator in an AASHE STARS context, a pilot with a limited number of AASHE members is being offered. Institutions interested in joining this pilot need to express their interest before March 31, which is also when the AASHE member discount expires.

Sustainable Development Primer for Higher Education Presidents, Chancellors, Trustees and Senior Leaders
This new primer describes the sustainability related, crucial roles and tasks for presidents, trustees and senior leadership and explains how sustainability is a robust national trend in higher education. The primer is from the Higher Education Associations Sustainability Consortium (HEASC), a network of associations committed to advancing sustainability within the entire system of higher education.
Funding for Clean Vehicles in Connecticut
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DOT) is seeking proposals from and providing funding to public entities that want to add alternative fuel vehicles, clean fuel vehicles or diesel retrofit technologies to their operations. Deadline to apply for funding is April 29.
NUS Students’ Green Fund: End of Fund Report
The Students’ Green Fund (SGF) has recently concluded a project funding period that distributed over five million pounds ($7,187,500) to develop 25 transformative, student-led projects. With funding provided by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the initiative sought to advance students’ unions’ ability to operate as hubs of sustainability within their institutions and beyond. A sample of significant outcomes include the creation of 42 full-time and 17 part-time staff, the creation of 335 paid student positions, 100 workshops and training courses, over 500 events, and the development of 10 student-led social enterprises.
