Start Somewhere: A Speak Out on Recent National, Local and World Events, 11-17-15

Recent national, local and world events have many of us reeling. So much has happened, and keeps happening, that it is difficult to process.  And it’s a busy time of year.  We’re focused managing our challenging workloads and also often isolated from one another while doing so.  Like our students, we’re often alone when we consume and attempt to digest information imparted through technology.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, 11/17/15, from approximately 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. we invite you to join us on the quad outside of Alumni Auditorium to come together in an informal forum to share concerns, ask questions, start dialogues and listen and learn from each other and our students.  We’re writing you as colleagues who share our belief in the power of civil discourse, speaking out and creating community.  Feel free to share this message as you see fit.
Stop by on your way to classes or meetings.  Bring your students for all or part of a class. You’ll see a colored chalk “mandala” on the quad with topical areas and jump-starter questions (see attached) to get conversation started. There is no agenda, no ulterior motive except the desire to “start somewhere” to address what we think and feel about these daunting issues of our time.
Peace,
Genevieve Jacobs and Kelly Jane Thomas
