Summary: ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain is an innovative science center and lake aquarium located on Burlington, Vermont’s Waterfront. ECHO leverages its unique setting to inspire and engage people to become advocates for a healthier Lake Champlain. ECHO uses its numerous interactive exhibits and animal ambassadors to educate and delight about the Ecology, Culture, History, and Opportunity for stewardship of the Lake Champlain Basin. ECHO is the public face of the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, a 2.7 acre campus that also includes the University of Vermont Rubenstein Ecosystem Laboratory and research vessel, Lake Champlain Sea Grant, the Lake Champlain Basin Program, and the Lake Champlain Navy Memorial. The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for supporting the administration of all aspects of accounting, finance and database management consistent with the institution’s mission of promoting and enhancing stewardship of the Lake Champlain Basin. This full time, salaried position reports to the Director of Finance and interfaces with all members of the ECHO team to address a variety of accounting, payroll, banking, database management and staff office needs. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration, be detail-oriented, highly organized and self-motivated.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work directly with Director of Finance to support the installation of accounting software to integrate with Blackbaud Altru to streamline financial systems and provide more access and transparency.
- Responsible for Accounts Payable and Receivable.
- Responsible for daily cash receipts and daily deposits.
- Prepare monthly book-to-bank cash and credit card reconciliations.
- Prepare general ledger account reconciliations as required.
- Responsible for payroll preparation, including grant billable hours.
- Assist in month-end financial closing process and financial statement preparation.
- Prepare various information returns (Federal, State, etc.) as required.
- Assist in the preparation of information required for the year-end audit and tax return.
- Manage the purchase and distribution of office & copier supplies. Petty cash administration.
- Other duties, as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
- Demonstrated experience of financial accounting in a not-for-profit environment.
- Minimum of two year’s, hands-on experience working with a financial accounting system such as QuickBooks.
- Experience with Blackbaud’s Altru software a plus.
- Knowledge of Payroll administration.

Work is performed in a regular office setting. The Accounting Coordinator must be able to work at a computer for several hours at a time. Some weekends, holiday, and after-hours work may occasionally be required.
