In solidarity with Ferguson and social activists around the country protesting against racial injustice in our criminal justice system, the Peace & Justice Center presents:
The New Jim Crow Group Discussions
Sunday, Dec. 7th at 3:00pm and Thursday, Dec. 9th at 6:00pm
Peace & Justice Center (60 Lake Street, 1C)
All are welcome. Free.
Rachel Siegel and Francine Serwili-Ngunga will facilitate two hour group discussions on Michelle Alexander’s book, “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.” In the first meeting Alexander’s claim that the War on Drugs is deliberately targeting and criminalizing communities of color, and how mass incarceration has continued the legacy of Jim Crow in legally discriminating against criminals, will be discussed. The discussion will focus on the introductory chapter, although reading the entire book is encouraged. A free online version can be found at www.pjcvt.org
All are welcome and encouraged to come both days. New members will receive a free copy of the book. To register, please visit
Please let me know if you have any questions. I have attached a flyer in case you know of anyone else you think may be interested in attending.
