Good News! We’re Still Cutting Costs, Not More Trees.

As we reported back in 2012, we were making great strides in reducing the amount of copy paper used on campus. Fast forward to 2014 and the story is even stronger. How are we getting there? We continue to shift from desktop printers to shared multifunction printers, which reduce cost from 1 penny per page to 1/1000 of a penny per page. More campus departments are digitizing their systems, requiring less paper, and finally, more of students and faculty are utilizing our learning management system, Canvas, for readings and assignments.
How is this all paying off?   According to recent analysis of our FY2014 paper usage we continue to save money. Thanks to all the efforts we have cut costs by over $2500 compared to last year.  We spent 7% less on copying in the FY2014 than the previous year.

Further, we reduced the amount of paper we used by over 18% compared to last year and over 37% compared to 2006. But wait there’s more! 94% of the copy paper that we use is made up at least partially of recycled paper (typically 30% post-consumer recycled content). Overall we are making a significant environmental as well as financial impact.
