Sustain Champlain has several student positions available for the fall semester, including:

Media & Graphic Design Assistant
Waste Reduction Coordinator
Eco-Reps


Media & Graphic Design Assistant
Through designing and updating various media, raise awareness about ecological issues and encourage environmentally responsible behavior of campus community.
Specific duties include:

  • Designing posters and other media for campus events and projects
  • Editing and posting social media content
  • Assist the Sustain Champlain staff in research and developing multimedia presentations such as an interactive campus sustainability map and related campus signage.
  • Assist with current Sustain Champlain projects, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Graphic design experience
  • Comfort working independently
  • Organization and good time management
  • Ability to communicate clearly (in person, via email, etc.)

Details: ~4-6 hours/week for $9.60/hour.

Waste Reduction Coordinator
The goal of this position is toreduce waste at Champlain College through education, outreach, and infrastructural means. The Coordinator will achieve this goal by working in close conjunction with the Sustainability Director.
Primary Duties:

1)  Maintain and improve current recycling and composting program, including:

  • Assist with special event set-up (bins, signs, etc.)
  • Coordinating volunteers to staff waste separation stations during event such as Orientation and Commencement
  • Annual review of bin inventory
  • Ensuring proper signage is in place
  • Conducting outreach on current procedures to students, faculty, and staff

2)  Create initiatives and campaigns that actively target waste reduction including:

  • Identifying sources of waste reduction and developing alternatives, such as single-sided printing/copying; use of disposable items on campus (e.g.; silverware at catered events or paper plates in office break rooms)
  • Promoting use of reusable mugs, water bottles, and bags

3) Participate on the Waste Reduction Committee (monthly meetings)

4) Work with Eco-Reps and Sustain Champlain to organize and host campus events that support waste reduction goals, such as:

  • Waste sorts
  • Workshops, art competitions, films, and speakers
  • Field trips to CWSD Materials Recovery Facility and Green Mountain Compost Facility

Eco-Reps
The Champlain College Eco-Reps are residential students who help raise awareness about ecological issues and encourage environmentally responsible behavior of campus residents. Eco-Reps educate their residence hall mates about environmental issues such as waste reduction and energy conservation. They also collaborate on related activities in their residence halls with their Resident Assistants (RA) and LEAD Peer Advisors (PA). Eco-Reps act as the additional “eyes & ears” regarding the physical operations of the buildings and alert Physical Plant staff if necessary.

Eco-Reps must attend training and planning meetings (Monday afternoons from 3:30-4:30pm), as well as a mandatory orientation session on Saturday, September 13, 2014.
