Sustainability Art on Campus

In celebration of Sustainability Spirit Week, CCM Faculty member, Rebecca Schwarz, shared some information and a few photos on art on the theme of  Sustainability around campus done by students in Creative Media Portfolio 1, and Public Art, Private Practices.

1. Ephemeral by Meghan Willis

Location: Coke Machine in stairwell of Hauke basement.

Materials: Water bottle, fishing line, scotch tape, nails, fake flowers A small sculpture of a flower (inspired by a spider lily) installed against the vending machine. Symbolic of both being able to recycle something into a beautiful piece, and show how many bottles are wasted.

2. Rara Avis by Zack Wincklhofer

Location: Ireland, 1st floor (near the rest rooms)

Materials: Mixed media, natural materials.

3. Mother Nature is Calling  by Lindsay Roberts flyer

4. The Real Champlain Mascot by M. Dietsche Ireland Lab, MIC 2nd floor printing room, 2nd floor Hauke, Foster Hall lobby 8×10” Ink on Paper. A giant squid looms over Champlain.

5. How Do You Help by Sean Heasley

Chalk interactive installation that asked viewers / participants how they help the environment.

6. Earth EP by Jackson Balling

Located online (soundcloud) and around campus. https://bit.ly/hearearth The seasons and elements are translated into audio soundscapes.

8. Untitled by Richard Monroe

Materials: downed branches, hot glue, handle of Hennesy As if the tree is picking up the empty bottle, like picking up trash.

9. Do What You Want 2 by Ryan Unser

Media:Digital Image, Digital Video Performance, Interactions Design, Ink on Paper.

A multimedia interactive piece that takes place on campus and throughout virtual space. It invites the Champlain community to address the topic of marijuana in the context of certain areas of the U.S. making progress in repealing prohibition laws.

10. Inconvenient by Chris Thompson

Location: Hauke 2nd floor hallway

Materials:Vinyl inflatable, CNC cut adhesive vinyl Interact with the top 20 effects of global warming.

Location: Hauke 209

Materials: tape, branch, power cord.
