Free Composting Workshop at Green Mountain Compost September 16 and 23

What makes your garbage smelly? Food scraps. What helps plants grow tall and strong? Food scraps! Yep, those same food scraps some of you are still sending to the landfill are actually a source of valuable nutrients.

CSWD is offering FREE backyard composting workshop where you will learn how easy it is to harness the forces of nature and turn food scraps and yard debris into beautiful compost that can be used to build up the soil in your lawn and garden — even as the summer draws to a close. Attendees will receive a free kitchen food scrap collector pail and instructions.

WHEN: 9/16 and 9/23, 5-6 pm (this is not a series; the same material is covered both nights)
WHERE: Green Mountain Compost, 1042 Redmond Road, Williston
COST: FREE, but registration is required. Visit the composting workshop web page to register: https://www.cswd.net/composting/backyard-composting/free-backyard-composting-workshop/
WHAT ELSE: The workshop will take place rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for the weather and activity. You can purchase a SoilSaver backyard compost bin for $49 at the workshop (please bring exact amount in cash or a check for $49 made out to Green Mountain Compost).

We all know why we keep resources like paper, plastic, and metal out of the landfill: Because they are valuable resources, plain and simple. The same goes for food scraps. When you bring them to any CSWD Drop-Off Center or Green Mountain Compost in Williston, or compost them in your own backyard, you’re helping recycle those resources into rich, black compost that gets tilled right back into the gardens that feed our community.
