Dear Members, Activists, and Friends,
We want to remind you of a big opportunity coming up: Button Up Vermont Day is
October 5 and it’s all about taking action on home energy efficiency with your
family, friends and neighbors. Sealing up and insulating homes and buildings
makes them cheaper to heat and much more comfortable. Weatherizing buildings
also reduces the global warming pollution that’s driving climate change. We
hope you’ll help out by volunteering, hosting an event in your community, or
taking steps to improve the energy efficiency of your home – and sharing your
story!
In recognition of the hard work of the state’s 100 plus town energy committees
and the 78 communities participating in the Vermont Home Energy Challenge, Gov.
Peter Shumlin recently proclaimed October 5 as Button Up Vermont Day of
Action.
Noting that the state has a goal of making more efficient 80,000 homes across
the state by 2020, Gov. Shumlin, in a recent video message on the Button Up Date of Action urged
Vermonters to step up and help out Oct 5.
“There are two reasons why Button Up Vermont is so important and why we need
your help. First, it puts money in your pockets,” Gov. Shumlin said. “Second,
it makes our planet more livable for future generations. So please join us.
We’d love to have your help.”
Button Up Day Social Media Campaign
In an effort to help spread the word about Button Up Day, the Vermont Energy
and Climate Action Network in partnership with Efficiency Vermont have
developed a short and simple social media campaign to reach more Vermonters. Check
out the guide or go straight to the VECAN Facebook page and start sharing, liking, and
commenting to help spread the conversation through your social networks. If
you’re not familiar with how to use social media this is a great opportunity to
learn and experiment; if you’re a social media expert this is a great way to
add some serious capacity to this collective effort.
How to Take Action
For more information on actions you can take on the day – and year-round – and
to sign up to volunteer go to www.vecan.net/buttonupvermontday/. Please also
consider using social media to spread the word. This is a conversation
Vermonters need be having and Button Up Vermont Day is a great way to take
action with your family, friends and neighbors.
Thanks for all you do,
The VNRC Team
