Sustainability Coach

The Sustainability Academy is currently seeking a Sustainability Coach to help lead the students, faculty, staff, and community as we continue our evolution as the nation’s first public elementary school dedicated to Education for Sustainability (EFS).  The SA Coach is a hands-on leader who is equal parts visionary, spokesperson, tactician, liaison, and catalyst whose main responsibility is to keep EFS at the core of the Sustainability Academy.  Their duties include being a building leader with the Principal around professional development, curriculum and instruction; documenting the school’s progress around integrating EFS into all that it does; securing and maintaining partnerships and promoting collaboration with and among staff, families, partners and other outside organizations.

Required:

  • Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License
  • Endorsement in elementary education or eligible for a Vermont Provisional License
  • Documented NCLP Highly Qualified Teacher status as applicable.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • THREE Letters of Recommendation and transcripts uploaded to SchoolSpring
  • Understanding of Cultural Competency (As explained through Essay 1 in SchoolSpring)
  • School experience at the elementary level
  • Familiarity with integrated technology as a learning tool
  • Knowledge of best practices regarding frameworks of student behavioral support
  • Knowledge of elementary research/evidenced based academic interventions
  • Addresses the values of sustainability in education and/or has a background/training in sustainability (as explained in Essay Question 3)

Preferred:

  • Training and experience with a multicultural student environment and/or English Language Learners
  • Evidence of strong connection with students and families
  • Experience in a Professional Learning Community, Critical Friends Group, or other best practice model of professional collaboration
  • Knowledge of assessments and use of data to inform instruction
  • Experience in implementing inclusive practices
  • Training in the Common Core and/or Next Generation Science Standards
  • Experience providing collaboration with teachers and/or community partners to enhance Education for Sustainability pedagogy and curriculum
  • Strong communication skills as evidenced through quality of resume, essays, and cover letter
  • Ongoing educational coursework

SALARY:      As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association.
