Rural Vermont Fall 2015 Internships

Rural Vermont is looking for two self-directed, motivated, capable of working both independently and collaboratively, as well as have a strong attention to detail and good communication skills. These internships typically run September through December; earlier start dates might be available. Hours are flexible, though occasional nights and weekends will be required. It is required that interns have access to a reliable source of transportation. Mileage reimbursement is provided for travel to events outside the Montpelier office.

ACTIVIST TRAINING (one position)
Work with Rural Vermont’s Director and Organizer/Advocate to execute a series of activist trainings in partnership with various groups and institutions. These trainings will be designed to provide citizens with the knowledge and skills to meaningfully participate in the local, state and national processes that create public policy. This project will include helping to create the content and materials for the trainings, the logistical coordination of the training events, as well as assisting with recruitment and follow-up with participating activists. Must be willing to primarily work from Montpelier office and attend the off-site trainings, with the option to do occasional work from home. This is 15-20 hour/week internship.

OUTREACH/MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT (one position)
Work with Rural Vermont Outreach Coordinator to strengthen and expand a statewide network of Rural Vermont supporters through various initiatives, including but not limited to, planning and supporting mission-driven events; managing Rural Vermont’s presence at agricultural conferences and farmers’ markets; informally surveying members about Rural Vermont’s communications, program work, and future priorities; and supporting ongoing membership, activist, and volunteer recruitment and management. There will be a strong emphasis on the preparation and planning associated with Rural Vermont’s 30th Anniversary – to include the successful conclusion of a year-long membership and capacity building drive and a big November event featuring “Farmers Tell Their Stories” and a Rural Vermont reunion. This internship is highly customizable. Interns work with staff to determine the most appropriate projects, balancing the strengths and interests of the intern with the needs of the organization. Must be willing to primarily work from Montpelier office and offsite at events, with the option to do occasional work from home. This is a 16 hour/week internship.
