One day remains to register for Rare’s Behavior-Centered Design for the Environment workshop. This three-hour workshop on Nov. 17 will assist participants in expanding their behavior change for sustainability toolkit by taking a deep dive into key steps of the behavior-centered design journey. The deadline to register is Nov. 17 at noon Eastern.


News of the Week

AASHE Announces the 2022 Sustainability Award Finalists

AASHE recently released the 28 finalists selected for this year’s Sustainability Awards. Selected from more than 430 submissions, the finalists represent high-impact sustainability projects, pioneering research, and student leadership. A ceremony will be held on Dec. 8 to announce the winners across all 12 categories.

U Pittsburgh Signs PPA for 20 MW Solar Farm

The new power purchase agreement secures for the university 100 percent of the electricity and renewable energy credits produced by a local 20 megawatt solar farm. The solar farm is expected to be operational in mid-2023.

2022 AASHE Sustainability Awards Ceremony

On Dec. 8 from noon to 1:00 p.m. Eastern, AASHE is hosting a live reveal of the 2022 AASHE Sustainability Award winners. From over 430 applications and nominations, the 12 winners represent global sustainability leadership from Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Fiji, Kenya, Switzerland, United States and Wales.

AASHE Workshop: Building a Curriculum Development Program: The Piedmont/Ponderosa Model

This curriculum development workshop, happening for two hours each day on Jan. 5 and 12, 2023, will provide faculty leaders with the knowledge, materials and strategies to adapt the Piedmont/Ponderosa model of sustainability across the curriculum at their institutions. Activities will explore the pace, timing, funding, staffing and philosophy behind the unique aspects of the workshop model. The registration deadline is Jan. 3, 2023.

Request for Comment: AASHE STARS 3.0: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

As part of the development process for the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) 3.0, AASHE is seeking public comment on a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion section slated for inclusion in the new version (projected release is currently fourth quarter of 2023). AASHE encourages feedback from stakeholders who may have relevant expertise or interest in participating. Public comment is open through Dec. 31.

Online Certificate on Education for Sustainable Development

This online program, offered by Earth Charter International, is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to deepen their understanding, knowledge and skills to integrate Education for Sustainable Development and education for global citizenship into classrooms and curricula. It runs from Jan. 18 through June 28, 2023.

AASHE Member Discount: 15% Off Sustainability and Climate Change Journal Subscription

AASHE members are entitled to a 15 percent discount off the regular, full subscription rate for an online institutional subscription to Sustainability & Climate Change, a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to sustainability, sustainable development and climate change.

AASHE Member Discount: 10% Off Climate Change & Health Certificate

Students, staff and faculty at AASHE member institutions are eligible for a 10 percent discount on an 18-week online certificate through Yale University’s School of Public Health that teaches about tools to address the health impacts of climate change.
