As we focus on 2020 and consider the priorities and goals for this year, we recognize the importance of continuing to strengthen our advocacy efforts; look more broadly at the definition of, and possibilities for, racial equity and social justice; and expand strategic partnerships to benefit our community. We are excited to continue working closely with our members throughout the year to address the ongoing shifts to the political landscape, sustainability demands and more.

Governance Announcement

We are pleased to announce those who have been confirmed as part of AASHE’s 2020 governance structure.

Meet the new members of the AASHE Board of Directors:

  • Audrey Jamal, Ph.D., Chief of Staff for the Office of the President at University of Guelph
  • Srinivasan “Raghu” Raghavan, Sustainability Manager at the University of Missouri
  • Ashwani Vasishth, Associate Professor in Sustainability, Convener of the Undergraduate Sustainability Program (BA), and Director of the Center for Sustainability at Ramapo College of New Jersey

The newly elected STARS Steering Committee members are:

  • Amy Butler, Director of Sustainability at Michigan State University
  • Mike Harrington, Assistant Director for the Tishman Environment and Design Center at The New School
  • Tamara Wallace, Sustainability Programs Manager at California State University, Office of the Chancellor

Our Advisory Council now has more than 120 members who promote and support AASHE’s growth and development. They advise us on complex and/or specialized matters and general programmatic efforts.


#AASHE2020 Details Released

The 2020 AASHE Conference & Expo will head to Milwaukee, WI from Oct. 4 – 7 at the Wisconsin Center. This year’s theme, “Mobilizing for a Just Transition,” will focus on centering justice within this transformation and ensuring that it leaves no one behind.

Submit a proposal to share your ideas and work! Become a reviewer to learn from others! This is a great opportunity to elevate your organization and advance your professional development. From engaging attendees with your sustainability story to empower others with the tools that have helped you, your participation will create a stronger campus sustainability community. As a token of our appreciation, all accepted presenters receive a discount applicable to full conference registration. Proposals are due by Feb. 28 and will not be extended.

2020 Higher Education Sustainability Staffing Survey

Participate in the 2020 Higher Education Sustainability Staffing Survey! This survey will examine the nature of sustainability positions at colleges and universities. Results from this anonymous survey will be shared in a publication later this year!
