U Virginia Raises Minimum Wage to $15 Per Hour
UVA recently announced that it will pay all full-time, benefits-eligible employees in its academic division and medical center a living wage of at least $15 an hour, beginning Jan. 1. Of the university’s more than 17,400 full-time, benefits-eligible workers, 1,400 paychecks will be affected.

U Texas Arlington Creates UN Regional Center of Expertise
In an effort to unify sustainability efforts across North Texas, the university was recently approved to establish a U.N. Regional Center of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development. Called the North Texas RCE, the center aims to address how to advance sustainability in the face of a booming population.

Sustainability Across the Curriculum Workshop
Learn how to lead curriculum change for sustainability by becoming familiar with the philosophy of change in higher education developed through the Ponderosa Project at Northern Arizona University and adapted at Emory in the Piedmont Project. The two-day workshop will feature presentations, exercises, discussions, reflection and planning. Readings and organizational materials are provided. Drs. Peggy Barlett and Geoffrey Chase will facilitate the workshop. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until March 29.
AASHE Member Discount: $100 Off Sustainability Certification Through ISSP
The International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) offers students, faculty and staff from AASHE-member schools a $100 discount on the ISSP Sustainability Associate (ISSP-SA) credential exam. The program is designed to recognize the knowledge, skills and abilities of those in the sustainability field, including students with knowledge of core sustainability concepts.
Biomimicry Global Design Challenge
The Biomimicry Global Design Challenge is an annual competition that asks teams of students and professionals to address critical global issues with nature-inspired solutions. The challenge is hosted by the Biomimicry Institute, in partnership with the Ray C. Anderson Foundation.
Call for Abstracts: 2019 Ecocity World Summit
Summit organizers encourage submissions to the Ecocity World Summit 2019, happening in Vancouver, British Columbia, from October 7 – 11. The summit brings together a mix of researchers, policy makers, city-building professionals, business innovators and civil society leaders who share a commitment to creating socially just and ecologically sustainable cities. The deadline to submit an abstract is April 1.

The STARS Community in AASHE Connect is an online platform for those working in higher education sustainability to connect, communicate and collaborate with peers regarding STARS. The platform can be used to ask questions, brainstorm ideas and share resources. To use the platform, log in with your aashe.org user ID and password. Then navigate to Communities > All Communities, and click the blue “Join Community” button.
Gender Lens Investing: A Primer For College And University Endowments
This primer explores the link between value creation and gender diverse companies; highlights the rising trend of colleges and universities moving towards mission-aligned investing; and outlines a diverse range of tools and investment strategies available to decision makers as they consider the integration of gender lens products in endowments.
