Skinny Pancake is hiring!

Howdy folks,

Before we get into our events this week, we’re going to touch on the current state of our labor market. Lest I bury it at the bottom of some long-winded content that loses your attention, let me be very clear: YES, WE’RE DEFINITELY HIRING: skinnypancake.com/jobs orjobs@skinnypancake.com

Its crazy how much has changed in the labor market in the past decade. We first opened on the Burlington waterfront in 2007. We were lucky. At the time, we had a steady stream of people dropping off unsolicited resumes. And because we were fresh and new, we were able to grow.

Nowadays, it’s the opposite extreme when hiring: the labor market is really tight and the economy is booming. We have the benefit of some size and scale and a good reputation, so opportunities come our way and we have the ability to act on them… but that means we need to hire more people to make it all happen. The challenge these days is that we are presented with these great opportunities but not enough people to work them.

With less employees available for hire, the competition has grown for the few folks on the job prowl. Wages are rising. Benefits are improving. I’d like to think employers are generally NICER, as well. As best I know, the days of a Hell’s Kitchen environment are fading…because if you’re a jerk of an employer, nobody is going to want to work for you. All of that is REALLY good for employees, which is long overdue.

At the Skinny, we try to be conscientious employers. We care about our employees A LOT. We work HARD. We do have FUN. Across the board, I believe we’ve improved a lot over the years. Better compensation and better benefits like a real 401k, paid time off and a health care match. Unique perks like a farmshare/CSA match and free access to canoes, kayaks and paddle-boards on the Burlington Waterfront. Safer work environment. Better communication and planning for our teams. To be clear: it’s still a work in progress. We’re not perfect,, but I believe we learn from every experience and that The Skinny Pancake is a better place to work today than it has ever been before.

So ya…there’s the lay of the land. It’s not a smaltzy sales pitch, but its the honest truth. We are good people and we are definitely HIRING from our festival tour to post-security at The Burlington International Airport and several points in between.

If you or someone you know are looking for a job, we strive to make The Skinny Pancake a great place to work. Please join us:www.skinnypancake.com/jobs
