The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime..
As the Associate Director in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, I also feel it is important to acknowledge that blood drives exclude many potential donors due to controversial FDA regulations.
