Administrative Work In-Office
We continue to have a lot to do in the office. In addition to what is happening in the greater Winooski area VRRP/USCRI is adding a sub-office in Rutland in January. We will be resettling Syrians and Iraqis in the Rutland area in January. We are looking for a core group of volunteers to team up and support the Volunteer Program.

Time Requirement: 4 hours/per week minimum, on-going

Job Duties: Work with Laurie on applications, orientations, matching, volunteer events such as pot lucks and Bridging Cultures.

Child Care Provider
VRRP/USCRI is excited to announce a new program, The Refugee Family Strengthening Program, that offers classes to individual, couple and family. The class offers 10 different skills and financial budgeting, and stress reduction skills. The Refugee Family Strengthening Program is looking for two individuals who are interested in providing care, doing some activities with children during class hours while their parents are at class.

Time Requirement: 3 hours/per week- on Sunday for two months (Jan and Feb)

Job Duties: Child Care provider typically do the following:

  • Supervise and monitor the safety of children in their care
  • Organize activities so that children can learn and explore interests
  • Develop schedules and routines.

Event Planning and Support

Whiffenpoof Concert in Colchester the last weekend of January

Yale’s Whiffenpoof acapella group has volunteered to do a benefit performance for VRRP. We need a dedicated corps of volunteers to create a plan and put it into action.

Time requirement: Depends on how you can help, if it’s one time or part of the planning team.

Syria the Far Close Country Event in Rutland, February 9th

The Syrians will start to come to Rutland in January. We would like to celebrate with an event featuring Syrians sharing their culture with the community. We need a dedicated corps of volunteers to create a plan and put it into action.

Time Requirement: Depends on how you can help, if it’s one time or part of the planning team.

The Fashion Show, March 18th at BTV

The One Fashion Show is being reinvented and will benefit VRRP this year. The artistic director is Heidi Tappan. The show will be a multicultural expression of the arts, fusing fashion, rhythm and performance. We are looking for individuals to support the production and performance teams.

Time Requirement: Depends on how you can help, if it’s one time or part of the planning team. If you want to be on the team we will share volunteer opportunities with you as they arise.

Job Duties

  • Driving a model/dancer who lives in Essex to practices in Burlington from 7-9 on Sunday nights, starting January 8th.
  • More model/dancers might need help with transportation. Would be great to have back-up.
  • Soliciting Sponsors for the show
  • Assisting with set up and take down

Office Painting

VRRP/USCRI hallways and bathrooms

Time Requirement: 2-3 hours minimum, enough to finish an area and make the set up and clean up worthwhile

Job Duties: Lay drop cloths, mask off and cut in edges and roll large wall areas. Clean and put away tools and drop cloth.

Storehouse Organization

VRRP/USCRI storehouse of apartment and personal items needs to have new donations sorted and stored away in an organized fashion.

Time Requirement: 2-3 hours minimum, ‘ideally’ if possible on a regular basis.

Job Duties: Work with the Anna the new Housing Case Manager to sort and store personal care, apartment basics, linens, warm winter outerwear, etc… and put together donations for newly arriving families. And when a brand new family arrives help them all select and try on suitable warm winter outerwear.

 

Warehouse Organization

VRRP/USCRI furniture warehouse needs to be reorganized as there is not always someone to store incoming donations in an oderly way.

Time Requirement: 2-3 hours minimum, ideally in teams of 2 minimum.

Job Duties: Work with the Anna the new Housing Case Manager to organize the furniture donations in our tight warehouse.
