For several years now, UVM has extended the invitation for 1-2 faculty from Champlain to participate in their Sustainability Faculty Fellows Program (with one minor exception of receiving professional development funds from UVM). This program seeks to develop a learning community—a multidisciplinary faculty cohort engaged in a year-long exploration of sustainability, the scholarship of teaching, learning, collaboration, and community building.
The Goals of this Fellows Program
- Create a community of faculty who are committed to integrating interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability
- Enhance the understanding of sustainability concepts among faculty and students, particularly those not trained in environmental fields
- Explore teaching and course design strategies that will engage students in sustainability from a multidisciplinary approach
The program, rooted in UVM’s campus and regional landscape, features a two-day January institute, held at scenic Shelburne Farms and UVM’s GreenHouse Residential Hall. Here, fellows engage in a rich mix of dialogue, reflection, writing, and critical thinking to explore how sustainability concepts can be integrated into their teaching.
