The MIT Office of Sustainability is seeking applications for the following two positions:

Project Manager for Sustainable Design and Construction
The Project Manager For Sustainable Design And Construction will engage with multiple infrastructure departments to ensure success in fulfilling MIT’s commitment to the robust integration of sustainable design, campus planning, and construction standards. The position will report (in three phases) to the Office of Sustainability for eighteen months, Office of Campus Planning for twelve, and then to Campus Construction full-time. Phase one responsibilities include managing the development and implementation of sustainable design and construction standards and process; supporting the measurement and verification process; providing capacity building/training workshops; developing sustainable design and energy protocols for multiple lab types; and supporting the integration of a carbon price into design projects where feasible. Phase two includes leading major planning efforts and developing new concepts/techniques for Institute planning; conducting space utilization and feasibility studies and performing test fits; developing, producing, and managing planning studies and projects; participating in the selection of and guiding consultants and other contractual arrangements; monitoring government-mandated planning requirements; and linking long-range vision/concepts to day-to-day work. Phase three involves strategically leading projects and enabling a sustainable infrastructure at MIT.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in engineering, architecture, or construction management discipline; at least five years’ experience in sustainability programs; LEED certification; strong working knowledge of relevant Massachusetts’ building codes and regulations; familiarity with issues pertaining to energy and related emissions, building design and construction, waste, water, land, and transportation; strong analytic and strategic planning skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to negotiate and form alliances and to work effectively with people from multiple disciplines, at different levels, and with varying degrees of technical knowledge. Project Manager for Living Lab Design & Strategic Engagement
The Project Manager for Living Lab Design & Strategic Engagement will design, cultivate, and implement a Living Lab platform that activates and engages the MIT community in developing and testing campus-based sustainability solutions, and manage a robust strategy that creatively educates and engages the MIT community in its commitment to becoming a state-of-the-art sustainable campus. Responsibilities include convening campus stakeholders to identify opportunities/mechanisms for piloting new technology, designs, or processes that advance MIT’s commitment to sustainability; investigating and identifying MIT research that may be applicable to addressing campus sustainability challenges; partnering with faculty/students/staff to seek opportunities to apply an experiential design approach to leverage the campus as a lab; developing metrics; liaising between the Office of Sustainability and related student clubs; developing strategic innovative platforms for learning; and leveraging the Living Lab as a bridge between academics and student life at MIT.
REQUIRED: master’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, environmental engineering, sustainability communication, or related field; at least five years’ professional experience; demonstrated experience in sustainability programs in universities or similar institutions, particularly project management, community engagement, performance analysis, communications development, report writing, and website content management; ability to network, be conversant across disciplines, and build coalitions with diverse populations; ability to develop research via an experiential design approach; familiarity with organizational behavior; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, and public speaking skills; familiarity with applied sustainability research; strong analytic and strategic planning skills; advanced understanding of energy, environmental, and sustainability issues; team orientation; familiarity with web content development; and ability to act decisively and independently resolve issues.
