Waste Separation improvements at Champlain

Happy new year!  Over the winter break, we made a few improvements to our waste separation infrastructure on campus. We hope you’ll resolve to practice Sorting It Out with these improvements.

CCM Waste Stations – now with real items!  You’ll find these throughout the EATS area as well as outside of the new mailroom on the first floor.

Joyce 2nd & 3rd floor Hallways – When you return to the 2nd & 3rd floor classrooms  in Joyce this semester, you’ll notice a small change. We’ve removed the trash and recycling bins from the individual classrooms and have made triple waste stations (compost/recycling/trash) in the hallways instead. With this effort we are able to:

  • provide receptacles for compost collection,
  • significantly decrease the amount of plastic liners used in the bins each day, and
  • have a more streamlined collection system for our custodial team.

This is a pilot project, so we’d appreciate your feedback.  If successful, we will explore implementing this in other classroom areas.

New signage – thanks to our friends at CSWD and our former graphic designer, Hannah Wood, we now have clearer posters depicting what goes in each bin. You can download the posters for use in your buildings here: Compost, Trash/Landfill, Recycle
