VPIRG is looking for up to 10 interns to work with them this semester. It is an unpaid internship, but students would be able to take it for credit if that was something they wanted to do.
Specifically, interns will be working on our Energy Independent Vermont campaign that is trying to put a price on carbon pollution in the state. I would be happy to answer any questions that people have about the position.
Cheers,
Maddie

VPIRG Global Warming Solutions Campaign
Fall 2015 Field Organizing Internship
Vermonters are already experiencing the wrath of global warming, and we know it’s not going away anytime soon. But as the threat rises, so has momentum for action.
That’s why VPIRG helped launch Energy Independent Vermont, a growing coalition dedicated to putting a price on carbon pollution in our state. A state level carbon pollution tax will not only hold fossil fuel companies accountable for the pollution they’ve been dumping for free, but according to a recent economic study it will actually save Vermonters money by increasing efficiency, facilitate the switch to clean energy, and create jobs. We believe that we have a responsibility to take bold action on climate change to protect our local economies, our homes, and our future…if you agree, join the campaign and apply today to be a VPIRG intern!
We’re looking for dedicated and passionate college students to help us inform and mobilize Vermont citizens and students on some of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. Interns will help educate citizens and fellow students through events and outreach, build grassroots support for the policy, and participate in organizing major events in Burlington and beyond.
As a VPIRG intern you will:
- Participate in weekly action nights and intern meetings to mobilize grassroots action on the campaign
- Attend briefings and trainings to gain important citizenship, leadership and organizing skills
- Work directly with a VPIRG organizer
- Experience a crash course in grassroots organizing and advocacy
- Bolster your professional portfolio by gaining valuable skills for careers in non-profit, environmental and advocacy fields
This is an unpaid, 10-15 hour/week internship from September-December, but you may be eligible to earn academic credit for your work. There are also potential opportunities to continue working on this campaign during the winter and experience the workings of Vermont’s State House during the legislative session and in the summer with full time, paid positions.
To apply, please send a resume and brief description of why you’re interested in this internship opportunity to Liz Edsell, VPIRG Field Director, at liz@vpirg.org.
Application Deadline: Tuesday, September 8th
