MAPPING INVASIVES for HEALTHY FORESTS, Part I

Invasion of the plants! Sound scary? It’s absolutely serious. So let Elizabeth Spinney, Invasive Plant Coordinator for VT Parks & Rec, teach us which plants are encroaching on our forests and what we can do about it.
Workshop Part 1:
* Learn and practice invasive plant ID
* Receive materials about management and outreach
Workshop Part II (we’ll host this next spring):
* Learn to map invasives as part of a widely used, robust citizen science project
* Each of our observation contributions help build a scientifically smart state plan and more!

FALL VOLUNTEER WORK DAY

It’s been a great summer, full of great projects…but we need YOU to help complete some of them! Help us get things into shape for the late fall!
From trails to signs, autumn gardening and low-key maintenance, please help us care for the Museum and its grounds. Come for an hour or all day, bring yourself, a friend, a family.
All welcome! • Please-pre-register (so we bring enough sandwiches to feed you!)
If you can’t come this day, please consider a couple of hours, a day, a weekly rotation, or something else! Whether you are out in the meadow, helping visitors at the front desk, or deep in the office, we would love your company and assistance at any time of year. We train, too.

FALL OPEN STUDIO WEEKEND

The Birds of Vermont Museum is a member of the Vermont Crafts Council. We love to celebrate Open Studio Weekend: sometimes with carving demos, sometimes just by celebrating and highlighting the lifework of Bob Spear and fellow carvers, and sometimes by showing off other artists’ work.

Celebrate Open Studio and Birds of a Fiber at the Birds of Vermont Museum with a soft art sculpture! Needle felt your own small owl under the the delightful guidance of Susi Ryan of The Felted Gnome Knows.

TURKEY CARVING (IN WOOD!) with David Tuttle
Saturday, October 24 • 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Carve and paint a Wild Turkey with David Tuttle of the Green Mountain Woodcarvers. Wood blank, eyes, snacks, and coffee provided.
All levels welcome. Do bring your tools and gloves if you have them; if you don’t, let us know. Dave often brings some knives, gloves, etc. to sell. Please bring your lunch.
Great for adults and teens. Younger kids need parental permission and Cub Scouts could show their Whittling Chip.
